- Battery Park City
- “Has developed a lot over the past few decades”
- Flatiron/NoMad
- “Great area to live! Central to everything! Have worked in 4 different boroughs in the last 4.5 years and it was only 1-2 subway rides to any of those work sites. Lots of great restaurants. Favorites: Eataly, Maman, La Pecora Bianca, Kazunori, Sugarfish, Momoya, almost everything on 20th st between Broadway and Park.”
- Larchmont, Westchester
- “Great restaurant town Lusardis (Italian) Encore Bistro (French) 35 min commute to midtown, park on the LI Sound, walkable suburb”
- Lower East Side
- “Was up and coming and has gotten a lot nicer now”
- Murray Hill
- “I lived in Murray Hill until 2020 and would describe it as a practical choice. It is convenient, has basic amenities and you can get relatively more space for your money. I would not suggest it for new grads, though, as there is not much to do in the area. In general, I would recommend Alterations Specialist (they have a number of locations in NYC) for tailoring and alterations, and Jim's Shoe Repair for shoe and bag repairs. If you need to shop for women's work clothes, I think Bloomingdales has the best mixture of brands under one roof and it is right across from a Sephora and a Zara. If you have really nice clothing that you need to dry clean, use Jeeves - they are more expensive, so I save them for things like formalwear, but they will remove ANY stain. They also will pick up your item at your home or work and then drop it back off.”
- Tribeca
- “It’s an older, more family oriented set up. Great farmers markets. Near the west side Highway and Hudson River which is great for an outlet for fresh air and activity. Great coffee shops and restaurants”
- Turtle Bay
- “Quiet, accessible, a nice respite though it does at times feel a little sterile being so close to all the businesses in Midtown”
- Upper East Side
- “Quiet, safe and convenient to hospital”
- “Yorkville to be specific; I love the fact that I’m walking distance from Central Park and the Met (definitely recommend a membership if you love art; low-tier membership of ~$200 gets you and 3 other people access as often as you want); Madame Bonté is a cute cafe with great Matcha; Michaeli Bakery has the best chocolate babka in the city; Kaia Wine bar has great vibes and really good wine + Southern African food; Heidelberg has great authentic German food; Melodys Piano Bar has really nice ambiance and great drinks”
- “Carnegie Hill to be precise. Very neighborhood-y. Less commercial (other than Mount Sinai hospital). Central Park is everything. A walk around the reservoir. The view facing south is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from the view facing north. South is all buildings, north is just nature. Spectacular sunsets there. Before 9am dogs can be offleash in most parts of Central Park (but not all!). The tennis courts in Central Park are great. You can take classes or just reserve courts. https://www.centralparktenniscenter.com/”
- Upper West Side
- “I lived in the Upper West Side for almost 20 years; the Park will always remain the best part about it, and would remind everyone that if you haven't explored the North Woods, you can't call yourself a true New Yorker.”
- “Some call it the "upper west suburbs" but I lived here when single and I think plenty of young people enjoy it too. You have Riverside Park on one side and Central Park on the other. Beacon Theater is right here for concerts. Endless coffee shops, cookie stores and delicious restaurants. It's very dog friendly too.”
- “Safe, nice, fun, could find everything you needed very close”
- “Feels like a neighborhood with lots of grocery stores, Riverside park is an awesome space to get outdoors, favorite activity is trying new restaurants, 1/2/3 trains are easy to commute on”
- “Very lowkey, family oriented, near both Riverside Park and Central Park (spend hours in Central Park - walking with friends, running, playing sports, walking dogs, attending concerts), a good mix of restaurants (Gennaro's and Dagon are a couple of local favorites), a range of bars (e.g., dive bars such as Gin Mill, Jake's Dilemma, Ellington's in the Park to wine bars such as Tarallucci e Vino), vets, hardware stores, Walgreens, grocery stores (Whole Foods, Trade Joe's, Dag's, mom and pop stores), public and private schools, etc.”
